Going to See the King!

Dear Church Family,

Our theme for January is “It is 2018 and We are Going to See the King.”

“Going to See the King” is a phrase taken from the gospel music hit song, Take Me to the King by Tamela Mann. The song is about taking steps to get close to God. That is our goal too. To attain this during the month of January, we are collectively entering into a corporate (group) fast for 21 days. The fast will begin on Monday, January 8, 2018, and end on Friday, January 28, 2018.

As you know, fasting is the biblical practice of abstaining from food, drink, or other pleasures as an act of worship and consecration to the Lord. It is to be accompanied by prayer and time spent reading the Bible. Many people in the Bible fasted, including David, Moses and Queen Esther.

I am asking all members of the church to fast from something during this time frame. Instead of food, you may opt to fast from a favorite hobby or pastime. All of us can make this sacrifice for God’s glory.

Daniel’s fast is widely known and followed, probably because it is detailed in the book of Daniel, and it works! I began including fasting into my spiritual disciplines many years ago, and have experienced spiritual breakthroughs. According to Daniel 10:2-3, “no choice food, no meat or wine touched my lips.” This means he ate only fruits and vegetables.

Like Daniel, we need a spiritual hunger for God, and seek spiritual foodcloseness with God.

Our Prayer Ministry will provide a prayer handout to accompany our fast. This will be a powerful event for our church. I am excited about the move of God at The Park.

Your Pastor,
Dr. Sheron C. Patterson
