Pastor's Update

“When they go low, we go high”

Church Family, this has been a very low week. We are living in very racially divided days. For some, this is a repeat of the past. For others, it is brand new strife. For all of us, the events in Charlottesville, VA, put us on notice that racism is rearing its ugly head again. The Neo Nazis, Klu Klux Klan and Alt Right intend to intimidate and destroy us. According to media reports, the racists groups bragged that “they are just getting started.”

My response is this: We are not new to this, we are true to this. We started out a long time ago. We are on God’s side, which is the correct side. Those on God’s side know that racial hatred is sinful. Those on God’s side clearly see the good from the bad.

Those on God’s side know that hate will never win. We use the well-known strategy that was well articulated by former First Lady Michelle Obama. She said this is how we teach our daughters to handle hatred. “When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is, when they go low, we go high.”

We have options in how we respond. Remember whose side you are on and always go high.

Your Pastor,
Dr. Sheron C. Patterson
